Hello Pinnacle people! To the newbies – welcome, this is a great group of people! I’ve been in the group since 2001. I have met some of the most amazing people with incredible stories. I know the parameters to join Pinnacle is primarily numbers based, and there is incredible recruiter wisdom sitting around you, but I’d encourage you to really get to know the people in this group because the stories of their lives are equally impressive.
I‘ve been with Executive Resources since June, 1993. The original owner tried to fire me after four weeks. I talked my way out of that and proceeded to make her a whole bunch of money, until …. she sold me, which worked out AOK. I have a whopping high school education AND one legal assistant class under my belt, a real academic scholar! When I stumbled upon this career, I was a bright eyed 28, recently fired as an administrative assistant.I’d spent the previous decade supporting some of the dumbest testosterone that’s walked this planet. In conjunction, I waited tables and worked retail to pay for my need of “things.” Despite my miserable people laden jobs, I vividly remember sharing in my interview that I knew I’d like recruiting because I LOVE(d) people. Whenever someone whines about recruiting my standard reply is “I’ve hadMUCH worse jobs for a lot less money.”
My niche is all I.T. in the 30 mile radius that is Des Moines, Iowa.During the gravy years, I went on and on in my BIO about my love of money. Then enter 2008 and 2009 … let’s just say that was f-ing humbling, in fact, at present I’m 14K away this quarter from what I billed the entire year of 2008! I promised that this go around I’d be smarter. A zebra doesn’t change it’s stripes :c) This market is insane for me right now. In my best years I placed 25 to 29 people, as I write this on March 30, I’ve placed 23 since October 1, fifteen of them have started since January 1. One guy had been fired for falling asleep at his desk, twice, which I was able to share with a CIO and they hired the guy after a trial period and paid my fee … uh yeah, this is a GRAVY market. My ratio right now is that for every 1.89 send outs I get, I make a placement.
I’m proud of my numbers, but even more so I’ve never had to look outside of my community for a client. I have never lost a client unless they have moved or closed. During the worst of times, those who could still turned to me. I’m fortunate that I’m well known so I receive a lot of referral business, my daily grind is focused on finding talent. Not so much in 2009, where I found myself marketing my a$$ off!
Regardless of the ups and downs, I’d never do anything different. It’s a great business and the stories that come from the day to day interaction with people, are priceless.
On a personal note, I have three wonderful children—Zach (15) a.k.a. my new driver, Luke (13), who’s aging me by the minute with all of his activities, and lastly there’s my sweet Maria (11), who’s the greatest thing that the money from this gig has afforded me. I’m sure there will be lots of great stories to come out of the Gateway to the West!
