In 1986, Gail Kaplan got tired of being a poor, exhausted, unappreciated English teacher in the Houston, Texas public school system. After an array of attempted (and disliked) careers, including co-owner of a seafood restaurant, owner of a multilevel marketing business, a waitress and too many more to list, she decided to try recruiting patent attorneys. She has never looked back. After being trained at a small recruiting firm for 5 months, Gail spent the next 10 years at a 50 recruiter placement firm in Houston where she became an Associate Partner. She was responsible for creating the firm’s training program which consisted of a weekly hour long presentation. While at the firm, she won many awards including Top Recruiter of the Year for the last 4 years she was there. For two years she received the #1 Biller in Texas Award and multiple Top Producer Awards through the Texas Association of Personnel Consultants, the largest state association in the recruiting industry. In 1996, Gail got married, moved to Boston, and founded Kaplan & Jass. The firm has recruiters who place patent attorneys, general legal attorneys, paralegals, and legal secretaries in both firms and corporations. A long standing member of the prestigious Pinnacle Society, an honors organization for recruiters comprised of the top producers in the nation, Gail was elected President in 2000 and served until 2004. Previously, she was the Membership Chair. She is now Hospitality Chair and organizes the conferences which are held twice a year. Since living in Massachusetts (which she has not yet learned to spell), Gail has given presentations at the Big Billers’ Panel for many state associations, ASA, and the National Association of Personnel Services. Also, she has spoken on several webinars for private recruiting companies and training forums. She currently lives both in downtown Boston and downtown Austin – a real city girl!
